Kansas City, Missouri – A third suspect now faces charges of murder in connection to the deadly shooting that took place during last month’s Kansas City Chiefs parade. Prosecutors announced Thursday that Terry Young, 20, has been charged with murder in the second degree, unlawful use of a weapon, and armed criminal action. The incident resulted in the death of one woman and left over two dozen people injured.
Young joins two other men previously charged with murder in the second degree relating to the shooting, along with two juveniles who were also charged separately. The investigation is still ongoing, and authorities anticipate bringing forth additional charges as more information surfaces.
The shooting occurred following an argument that escalated during the celebration outside Union Station in Kansas City on February 14th. According to prosecutors, tension rose when Young and two others approached a separate group of individuals, resulting in a confrontation where firearms were brandished.
Surveillance footage captured Young allegedly firing multiple shots during the altercation. Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker stated, “Everyone we’ve identified who discharged a firearm in response to the verbal altercation…has been taken into custody.” Among the victims, Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a 43-year-old mother of two and local radio DJ, tragically lost her life in the shooting.
Prosecutors have requested a $1 million cash bond for Young while emphasizing the seriousness of the charges brought against him. As the community mourns the loss of Lopez-Galvan and the injuries sustained by others, the legal proceedings continue to unfold in the aftermath of this tragic event.
