EDGEWOOD, Md. – A man in Edgewood pleaded guilty to first-degree murder on Friday in connection with the 2022 killing of a woman. Jamar Deverick Wise, 43, entered his plea at Harford County Circuit Court in relation to the shooting death of Kisha Blackwell, 46, outside her home on Majesty Lane. Blackwell was killed on December 20, and despite prompt arrival from the police, the shooter managed to flee the scene. She succumbed to her injuries a day later.
The incident was captured by a neighbor’s cellphone, and the 911 call reporting the verbal argument and subsequent shooting was made by Blackwell’s 15-year-old daughter. Wise, who was arrested in Pennsylvania two days after the incident, was found in possession of the weapon used to shoot Blackwell. The sentence of Wise is scheduled for May 10, and he faces a potential life sentence, with the possibility of 80 years suspended, leading to life imprisonment without parole.
The guilty plea brings some closure to the tragic incident that shook the Edgewood community in 2022. Blackwell’s death reverberated through the neighborhood and left a lasting impact on her family and the community. Wise’s admission of guilt provides a semblance of justice for Blackwell’s loved ones and serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of senseless acts of violence.
The plea agreement and the impending sentencing have sparked discussions about the justice system and the penalties for such heinous crimes. The community is keenly following the case’s developments and anticipates a just and fair sentencing that reflects the severity of the crime. The tragedy has prompted a renewed focus on addressing domestic violence and ensuring the safety and security of individuals and families in the Edgewood area.
