Mumbai, India — In a chilling revelation, Mumbai police announced the arrest of Shivkumar Gautham, the alleged primary assailant in the high-profile murder of veteran Maharashtra politician Baba Siddique. The operation, conducted in conjunction with the Uttar Pradesh police and their Special Task Force, culminated in Gautham’s apprehension on Sunday in Uttar Pradesh, just as he was reportedly plotting an escape to Nepal.
Gautham, who has since been taken into custody, is accused of orchestrating the attack on Siddique outside his son Zeeshan’s office during the vibrant Dussehra celebrations on October 12. Utilizing the chaos created by fireworks as a disguise, three gunmen allegedly connected to the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang executed the attack. Police have successfully apprehended two other suspects shortly after the murder, while Gautham initially evaded capture.
Further investigations revealed Gautham’s audacious movements post-assault. In a desperate attempt to confirm Siddique’s death, he changed his attire and mingled anonymously within the crowd at Lilavati Hospital, where Siddique was immediately rushed in critical condition. Only upon confirming the severity of Siddique’s injuries did Gautham leave the hospital premises.
Accompanying Gautham’s arrest, police detained four individuals identified as Anurag Kashyap, Gyan Prakash Tripathi, Akash Srivastava, and Akhilendra Pratap Singh in Uttar Pradesh for allegedly providing refuge to him post-incident. These arrests have allowed Mumbai police to maintain custody of the suspects until November 19, as ongoing investigations continue to unravel the complexities of this case.
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang, a name that has instilled considerable fear in parts of India due to their ruthless operations, purportedly claimed responsibility for Siddique’s assassination.
