Hicksville, N.Y. — A violent altercation at a local hotel parking lot resulted in the arrest of two brothers after one of them attacked a man with a machete, according to Nassau County Police. The incident occurred just before 11 a.m. at the Days Inn on South Oyster Bay Road in Hicksville.
Authorities said the confrontation began when Jelony Conze, 21, and his brother, Adonin Omhari Conze, 23, engaged in a heated dispute with a 43-year-old man. The argument quickly escalated when Jelony Conze reportedly struck the victim with his 2005 Nissan Altima. After the collision, he emerged from the vehicle wielding a machete and inflicted several severe cuts on the victim’s hands.
In the midst of the chaos, Adonin Omhari Conze also exited the car and assaulted the victim by repeatedly punching him in the face, police reported.
Following the attack, the brothers, who are reported by the police to be unhoused, attempted to flee the scene. However, law enforcement officials were able to locate them nearby shortly afterward, leading to their arrest.
The victim sustained significant injuries, including deep lacerations to his hands, and received immediate medical attention. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he was reported to be in stable condition.
During their arraignment in Nassau District Court in Hempstead on the following day, both Jelony and Adonin Omhari Conze pleaded not guilty to multiple assault charges. Additionally, Jelony Conze faced charges of second-degree attempted murder and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
The court set bail for Jelony Conze at $100,000 cash, $200,000 insured bond, or $125,000 partially-secured surety bond. Adonin Omhari Conze’s bail was set at $50,000 cash, $100,000 insured bond, or $75,000 partially-secured surety bond.
This violent incident has raised concerns among local residents about safety in public spaces and the presence of weapons in disputes. Community members have begun calling for increased patrols and stricter enforcement of public safety laws to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The Nassau County Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances leading up to the altercation, examining surveillance footage from the area and interviewing potential witnesses to determine the motive behind the attack and whether any preventive measures can be put in place to avoid such occurrences.
