Ludhiana, India — Tensions escalated in the village of Gorsian Khan Muhammad after a violent incident targeted the wife of the local village leader. Local police confirmed they have commenced an investigation involving 30 individuals accused of the assault on Parkash Kaur, spouse of the village sarpanch, Jagdev Singh. Reports indicate the attackers, armed with sharp weapons, sought to target Surjit Singh, a former village sarpanch and relative of Kaur, provoking concerns about long-standing political rivalries within the community.
The incident, which occurred on November 6, followed a Diwali celebration that turned contentious. According to Kaur’s statement to the police, the assailants forcibly entered Surjit Singh’s residence and assaulted her with an iron bar. Adding to the complexity of the case, a cross-complaint has been lodged by one of the accused, Reshma, against the complainants, revealing a web of accusations and counter accusations that law enforcement must now untangle.
In a separate case reflecting the increasing crime rate in Ludhiana, police are investigating a daylight robbery near Pratap Chowk that resulted in the theft of Rs 2.5 lakh from a father-son pair. Ankur Uppal, a rice trader, reported that while they were stopped to take a phone call, robbers brandishing a knife forcibly took the money. Authorities have identified one suspect, named Pramod, a broker, implicating him and two unidentified accomplices in the felony.
Additionally, Ludhiana’s police force recently apprehended a known drug peddler, Amarjeet Singh alias Gandhi, in possession of over 2 kg of opium and Rs 22.41 lakh in suspected drug proceeds. Investigators disclosed that Singh’s criminal activities extend beyond drug dealing into operating illegal gambling networks. During his arrest, officers seized a vehicle, several mobile phones, gold jewelry, and items related to gambling.
