Sulphur, Louisiana — A 28-year-old woman has been charged with first-degree murder after a tragic incident in which she allegedly shot her 1-year-old daughter. Authorities responded to the shooting on January 1 around 8:21 p.m., arriving at a residence on Quelqueshue Street to find the child deceased.
The mother, Kristen Bass, is currently being held on a $10 million bond. This shocking event has sent ripples through the community as investigators piece together the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Bradley Moss, the father of the child, identified the victim as Acelynn Moss. He recounted a horrifying evening when he heard a loud noise coming from the home. Upon rushing to the room, he discovered Acelynn had been shot, with Bass allegedly still holding the firearm. In addition to Acelynn, the couple’s 2-year-old daughter was present in the room, reportedly crying for assistance.
Moss claimed that Bass had expressed a morbid intent regarding their daughter, stating she shot Acelynn in an effort to “send her to God.” He also indicated that there were implications Bass had intended to harm their other child as well.
Amid the chaos, Moss reflected on the near loss of both his daughters, stating, “I almost lost two babies. I lost one because her mama wanted to send her to God.” He described how his older daughter was pleading for help, underscoring the frantic nature of the scene.
The local police department is actively investigating the case and is seeking any additional information from the public. They encourage anyone with relevant details to contact Sgt. Jeremy Cain at the Sulphur Police Department.
Community members are grappling with the emotional fallout of the incident, which raises disturbing questions about mental health and safety. This tragic shooting has drawn attention to the need for support systems to help families in crisis.
