LYNN, Mass. — A 22-year-old man faced arraignment in Lynn District Court on Friday following a violent altercation with a convenience store clerk. Joshua Mora is charged with multiple offenses, including armed robbery and several counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, in connection with the attack that occurred on October 31.
During the court appearance, Mora concealed his face behind a whiteboard, pleading not guilty to the charges. Lynn police reported that they received a call at around 7:21 p.m. regarding a disturbance at the Richdale Convenience Store on Chatham Street. Officers arrived to find that the clerk had sustained significant injuries and that several items were missing from the store.
Surveillance footage from the incident revealed Mora jumping over the checkout counter and unleashing a series of punches on the clerk in what police described as an unprovoked attack. Local resident Mike Dion, who witnessed the aftermath, expressed his shock at the level of violence displayed. “The way I saw him punch and punch, I mean the guy couldn’t even get off the floor,” Dion stated.
According to the store owner, Mora initially entered the shop to purchase a bag of chips and lingered for a while before returning to the store. When the clerk requested identification for a subsequent tobacco purchase, Mora allegedly knocked over merchandise and swiftly turned violent. The store’s owner and Dion condemned the attack as senseless. “It’s just ridiculous,” noted Dion, adding, “Have some respect; it’s human life.”
The clerk endured severe injuries, including a broken leg, a broken nose, and a fractured jaw. Community members and the store owner alike have expressed their concern over the incident, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect in daily interactions. “We’re all just trying to make ends meet,” Dion said, highlighting the shared struggles of local residents.
Currently held without bail, Mora is scheduled to appear in court again next week for a dangerousness hearing, where the court will evaluate whether he poses a risk to public safety. The investigation remains ongoing as Lynn police work to ensure justice for the injured clerk and the community.
