Justice Sought for Trans Woman Killed in Detroit

DETROIT, MI – A mother’s search for justice advances as police arrest a suspect in her daughter’s murder, discovered in her Detroit apartment in June. The suspect remains detained, pending formal charges.

Camorra Woods was found by her mother after friends and family failed to contact her. The scene was harrowing, with Woods lying lifeless in her bedroom from a gunshot wound.

Authorities linked 23-year-old James Wallace to the crime through forensic evidence. Wallace, already wanted for another offense, was identified by a fingerprint on a condom wrapper at the scene. Surveillance footage corroborated his presence at the apartment, showing him entering shortly after Woods returned from work and leaving alone minutes later.

Wallace confessed to disabling Woods’s phone, allegedly to prevent her from seeking help. He initially denied his presence at the scene but later described a scenario of self-defense, which investigators questioned given the lack of physical trauma other than the gunshot.

Woods’s mother, grappling with her daughter’s tragic death, questioned Wallace’s motives and actions. She highlighted Woods’s identity as a transgender woman, emphasizing her pride and the potential for bias in the crime.

Remembered for her loving nature, Woods’s mother called for acceptance and understanding, urging others to cherish their loved ones amidst life’s uncertainties.

As the investigation proceeds, the community remains hopeful for justice and closure in the tragic loss of Camorra Woods.
