DUBLIN, Ireland — A violent assault that left a young woman with life-altering injuries culminated in a six-year prison sentence for the orchestrator this week. Jack Cummins, 22, was found guilty of orchestrating the attack on Alanna Quinn Idris, then 17, and her friend Louis O’Sullivan on December 30, 2021.
During the sentencing, Judge Pauline Codd described Cummins as “the catalyst for all that ensued,” highlighting a troubling phone call he made to his cousin the night of the incident, which triggered the events that left Quinn Idris with a ruptured eye, a broken cheekbone, and a shattered tooth. Though Cummins expressed remorse in court, Quinn Idris firmly rejected his apology. “I thought it was a joke,” she said, adding that forgiveness was out of the question. “Absolutely not, not in a million years.”
Reflecting on the six-year sentence, Quinn Idris expressed satisfaction, noting it was longer than initially anticipated. “We were told he was only going to get two or three years, so six feels like a victory,” she explained. The ordeal had stretched over years, filled with torment from Cummins, who had instigated bullying since her youth. One particularly harrowing memory involved Cummins and a group of boys throwing fireworks at her and her friends, forcing them to seek cover in a shop.
Quinn Idris found a bit of closure in the sentencing, stating, “I’m so relieved. It was a long few years.” In the aftermath, she has been adapting to her injuries, opting for a prosthetic eye that suits her experience better than previous versions. “I decided on a full white eye; I didn’t want one that tried to mimic a real eye,” she noted.
Since the sentencing, Quinn Idris has received an outpouring of support from the community. “So many people have sent me lovely messages,” she shared. Amidst the recovery, she also embarked on a new journey in her modeling career, revealing her participation as an extra in the upcoming season of the Netflix series “Wednesday,” starring Jenna Ortega. “I can’t wait to see it,” she said about her debut in a large ballroom scene.
Cummins’ sentence follows a long history of aggression, culminating in the violent attack where he, alongside accomplices, severely injured Quinn Idris. This has also seen new revelations about other individuals involved, including a cousin who received a five-year sentence and another man given four and a half years for their roles in the attack. The identity of a fourth individual, who struck Quinn Idris with an e-scooter, remains unknown.
As the case wraps up, Quinn Idris hopes to leave the past behind her while looking ahead to brighter prospects and opportunities.
