Nottingham, England — Two men have been sentenced for their involvement in a brutal and unprovoked attack that left a man in his 20s with severe head injuries outside a nightclub in Nottingham. The incident occurred in the early hours of May 5, 2025, on St James’s Street, where the victim was assaulted by a group after an altercation inside the venue.
Following a thorough investigation, including the analysis of CCTV footage, authorities identified the attackers as Jayden Gunter, Kiarne McLeary, Alfie Seagrave, and Jaden Walters. As the group exited the nightclub around 4 a.m., Walters was seen on camera passing a knife to Seagrave, although it was ultimately not used during the attack.
All four suspects appeared in Nottingham Crown Court on January 16 after pleading guilty to causing grievous bodily harm without intent. Gunter, 20, from Shanwell Close, was sentenced to 16 months and two weeks in prison. Seagrave, 21, from Rugby Road in West Bridgford, not only pleaded guilty to the assault but also admitted to having a knife in a public area, resulting in a more extended sentence of two years and three months.
McLeary, 24, from Beechdale Road, and Walters, 22, from Moorfield Court in Stapleford, have yet to receive their sentences but have also admitted to possessing a weapon in public. The investigation indicated that the group had previously engaged with the victim inside the club, setting the stage for the violent confrontation that unfolded outside.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene where Gunter allegedly grabbed the victim before delivering multiple punches. Seagrave was reported to have pulled the victim to the ground before McLeary and Walters joined in, with the latter kicking the victim and both Gunter and Walters stamping on his head. Emergency services found the victim required stitches after sustaining a significant cut to his head.
Detective Constable Michael Love of Nottinghamshire Police emphasized the seriousness of the crime. “We were committed to securing justice for the victim of this disturbing and unprovoked attack,” Love stated. He elaborated that such violent behavior has no place in the nightlife of the city and stressed the importance of a strong response to such incidents.
Love acknowledged the role of the nightclub staff in aiding the investigation, which played a crucial role in securing convictions against the four men. The legal outcomes underscore the efforts of law enforcement to address violence in public spaces and raise awareness about the dangers of carrying weapons.
