Orange, Texas — A 35-year-old man was sentenced to 28 years in prison following a jury’s verdict that found him guilty of a severe domestic violence and sexual assault case. The decision was made by a Comal County jury after deliberating evidence related to an attack on his wife in 2021.
Jarid James Stout faced charges of sexual assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and family violence assault stemming from a violent incident that occurred on August 14, 2021. The jury reached a guilty verdict on all counts on January 9, 2026. Three days later, the jury sentenced Stout to 13 years for sexual assault, 15 years for aggravated assault, and 10 years for family violence. The latter sentence included a $10,000 fine for the crime, which involved impeding the victim’s breath or circulation.
During the proceedings, jurors were informed that a firearm had been used during the aggravated assault. The presiding judge, Robert Updegrove, designated that the sentence for sexual assault would be served consecutively, culminating in the 28-year total. As a stipulation of his sexual offense conviction, Stout will be required to register as a sex offender once he has served his time.
The attack was reported by friends who were vacationing with the couple at the time. They called 911 after witnessing the victim running to them for help, visibly injured from Stout’s brutal assault. Deputies who responded to the distress call found her with significant swelling and bruising around her head, face, and neck, and she recounted the horrifying details of the attack that unfolded while she was in the shower.
According to the victim, Stout attacked her dozens of times, choking her and dragging her into a bedroom. He allegedly threatened her with a gun during the assault, leading to severe physical injuries, including damage to her teeth. Disturbingly, the victim also indicated that Stout had sexually assaulted her the previous evening, making comments that underscored his abusive mindset.
Evidence gathered by investigators included a firearm and numerous bloody towels located at the scene. The victim’s disclosure of previous assaults corroborated the pattern of violence she had suffered, painting a grim picture of their marital relationship.
During the trial, the prosecution presented testimonies from multiple witnesses, including a forensic nurse who described the severity of the victim’s injuries as among the worst she had encountered in her extensive experience with sexual assault cases. The jury deliberated for less than two hours before rendering a unanimous guilty verdict.
In the sentencing phase, additional testimonies were provided, including one from a recent victim of Stout’s prior domestic violence incidents. This information was pivotal as it highlighted a troubling history of abusive behavior. After nearly two and a half hours of deliberation, the jury reached its conclusion on Stout’s sentence, reflecting the seriousness of his actions.
The prosecutors emphasized the importance of holding Stout accountable for his actions, stating that he would no longer be able to treat women as if they were his property. The case was prosecuted with the assistance of a dedicated team, showcasing the community’s commitment to addressing and combating domestic violence.
