Jharkhand Men Arrested After Violent Assault on Police Constables at Sunset Point

Cuncolim, India — Tensions escalated in a quiet neighborhood on August 17 when four men from Jharkhand were arrested following a violent confrontation with local police officers. The incident unfolded at Sunset Point, close to Parul University, where the suspects allegedly attacked two constables while they were performing their duties.

According to authorities, the group — identified as Jebiyar Dung Dung from Varca, along with Betul residents Suresh Hariya, Rahul Kisan, and Amit Lohra — formed an unlawful assembly. They reportedly armed themselves with stones and launched an assault against Constables Sairaj Naik and Anup Kavrekar.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene as the suspects began throwing stones and physically attacking the officers, resulting in serious injuries. Constable Kavrekar suffered head wounds and injuries to other parts of his body due to the barrage of stones and punches, while Constable Naik was also harmed during the fray.

In response to the incident, Cuncolim Police have charged the men with attempted murder and other crimes under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which governs unlawful assembly and assaults on public servants. The severity of the allegations highlights the growing trend of violence against law enforcement.

Local authorities have initiated a manhunt for two remaining suspects involved in the assault, who have yet to be apprehended. The attack has heightened concerns about safety in the community, prompting police to intensify security measures in the area.

Officials are continuing their efforts to investigate the incident and prevent further violence, underscoring the importance of supporting law enforcement as they carry out their responsibilities. Community members are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity as the investigation unfolds.

As the situation develops, the community watches closely, reflecting on the challenges faced by those in uniform and the need for collaboration between citizens and police to maintain peace.
