TOKYO, Japan – A Japan Airlines plane erupted in flames after colliding with a Coast Guard plane on the runway of Tokyo’s Haneda Airport on January 2, 2024. The collision resulted in a massive fire, with the incident leading to the deaths of five Coast Guard members and injuring at least 14 people.
The Japan Airlines Flight 516, carrying 379 people, including 12 crew members, burst into flames upon impact. However, all passengers and crew managed to safely evacuate the burning plane. The collision occurred as the aircraft was landing on the runway and collided with a Coast Guard MA722 plane that was en route to assist in earthquake relief efforts. Video footage showed the horrifying moment when the plane burst into flames, creating a chaotic scene.
