LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – The murder of investigative journalist Jeff German sent shockwaves through the community after his body was found outside his home in September 2022. Police quickly turned their attention to Robert Telles, a subject of German’s investigative reporting, leading to a series of events that ultimately resulted in Telles’ arrest.
German’s body was discovered by a concerned neighbor, who immediately called 911. Unfortunately, German had already been dead for approximately 24 hours, having suffered seven stab wounds to the neck and chest.
Surveillance video revealed the chilling moments leading up to the attack, capturing the assailant hiding in German’s yard and ambushing him as he walked to the side of his house. The video prompted German’s colleagues to delve deeper into the potential motives for German’s murder, ultimately focusing on Telles, who had been the subject of German’s recent reporting due to claims of a hostile work environment at the Clark County Public Administrator’s Office.
Telles’ prior arrest for domestic battery and resisting arrest further fueled suspicions, especially as investigators discovered more evidence potentially linking Telles to the crime. A maroon Yukon Denali, a sun hat, and DNA found under German’s fingernails were all key pieces of evidence in the case against Telles.
As the investigation unfolded, Telles was brought in for questioning, during which police collected a DNA sample from him and took his jeans into evidence. Despite Telles’ denials and claims of evidence tampering, a grand jury later indicted him for the murder with the use of a deadly weapon. Telles continues to maintain his innocence as his trial is scheduled for March 18, 2024.
