The incident, which occurred in the 7300 block of Woodman Avenue, prompted a swift response from the Los Angeles Fire Department, with Connor Thompson, an LAFD spokesman, confirming that firefighters were alerted to the blast at 5:38 p.m.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported as the explosion was contained to a single apartment unit. The occupants of the unit, consisting of two adults and one child, were not at home when the incident took place. The Red Cross was on-site to assist the affected individuals in finding alternative housing arrangements.
Maronzio Vance, a resident living across the street, described the explosion as massive, recalling how he noticed the apartment’s wall completely obliterated. Vance, who suspected the explosion to be gas-related, captured footage of the aftermath, showing shattered glass and blown-out window screens scattered on the sidewalk. He mentioned that city officials had previously discussed shutting off gas due to unpaid bills by the property manager of the building.
In response to the explosion, forty-six firefighters were dispatched to the scene to assess the situation.
