Kyiv, Ukraine — Over the last 24 hours, Russian forces have intensified their attacks on the border areas of Ukraine’s Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions, launching assaults that resulted in at least 322 explosions, Ukrainian officials reported.
The North Operational Command detailed these violent engagements on their communications platforms, noting significant artillery use, drone strikes, and deployment of multiple launch rocket systems by the invaders. The attacks have notably disturbed the peace of everyday life across these regions, signaling a severe escalation in tensions.
In the Chernihiv region, the brunt of these assaults was borne by 15 communities across several administrative sectors including Horodnia, Novhorod-Siverskyi, Snovsk, and Semenivka. Local reports from these areas state that Russian forces utilized a variety of attack methods, including mortars, conventional barrel artillery, as well as drones and an assortment of explosive devices dropped from the air.
Similar aggressive tactics were reported in the Sumy region, where 23 settlements faced a barrage of hostilities. Among the weapons used were drones, including Shahed-type UAVs recognized for their destructive potential, alongside traditional artillery and mortar fire. The attacks in these regions were not only wide-ranging but also varied in nature, posing a continuous challenge to local defenses and residents.
The situation in Kharkiv was equally grim with four settlements within the Bohodukhiv district reeling under the impact of barrel artillery, unguided aerial rockets, and other explosive war materials. The extensive use of aerial drones and other flying devices equipped with explosives adds a complex layer of threat, indicating a sophisticated assault strategy by Russian forces.
The local officials are currently assessing the extent of the damage, which includes civilian casualties and property destruction. Preliminary reports from the field have recorded significant infrastructure damage including to an administrative building in Riasne; in Novopostroiene, the attacks have resulted in civilian injuries and damage to private property, underscoring the indiscriminate nature of the bombardment.
These relentless attacks come amidst a background of heightened military clashes across the border zones. Fighting has notably intensified in areas including Siversk, Pokrovsk, and Kursk, among others, where Ukrainian defensive operations are ongoing.
Local authorities and on-the-ground reports suggest the situation remains fluid, with a continuous need for humanitarian and military support to assist those communities caught in the crossfire. As the international community watches closely, the toll on human life and infrastructure continues to climb, underscoring the devastating human cost of conflict.
