NORTH VERNON, Ind. – Authorities in Indiana have made an arrest in connection to a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 53-year-old man in Jennings County. Late Thursday night, law enforcement responded to a distress call about gunfire at a residence in the 4000 block of East Private Road 450 South. Upon their arrival, they discovered Robert “Matthew” Montgomery deceased from gunshot wounds outside his home.
The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Conner M. Montgomery, the son of the victim, was persuaded to exit the house and was subsequently taken into custody without further incident. According to the Indiana State Police, the tragic event unfolded after Conner had a confrontation with a woman inside the house, during which he allegedly pointed a firearm at her and discharged the weapon.
The situation escalated when the woman attempted to leave the premises, prompting Conner to shoot and disable her vehicle. Law enforcement officials indicated that two children were also present in the home during the incident, further complicating the domestic dispute.
