Deputies say early evidence points to a murder-suicide on Bonaventure Drive; two children and an adult relative were unharmed.
CYPRESS, Texas — A man and a woman were found shot to death Thursday morning inside a home in the 13700 block of Bonaventure Drive, authorities said, in what investigators with the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office described as an apparent murder-suicide.
Officials said the deaths were reported after a family member who lives next door went to check on the couple when they had not left for work as usual. Deputies arrived and found the husband and wife with gunshot wounds inside the residence near Trudeau Drive. An adult family member and two young children were also in the home and were not injured, authorities said. Investigators emphasized the inquiry is ongoing and that final determinations will come after forensic reviews and death rulings.
Responding units were dispatched shortly after daybreak. Tape cordoned off a stretch of Bonaventure Drive as deputies processed the scene and spoke with relatives and neighbors. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said an adult family member and two children were in the house but were unharmed, describing the episode as domestic in nature. “It’s tragic all around,” Gonzalez said, adding that investigators were interviewing witnesses and checking nearby cameras to establish a precise timeline.
Precinct 4 officials said early evidence at the scene suggested a murder-suicide; however, they stopped short of releasing a definitive sequence of gunfire. The couple’s names, ages and manner-of-death rulings will be released by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences after identification and notification of next of kin. Deputies canvassed the block to ask about overnight disturbances and collected shell casings and other material from inside the home. No other injuries were reported, and there is no ongoing threat to the neighborhood, authorities said.
The house sits in an established subdivision in unincorporated northwest Harris County, where deputies have responded to a range of family-related calls this year. While records show investigators frequently rely on neighbors’ doorbell video in such cases, officials did not say whether any footage has been recovered. The constable’s office said the scene would remain secured for several hours while technicians photographed rooms and documented the position of evidence before removing the bodies for autopsy.
Detectives will review ballistics, collect any electronic messages or call logs relevant to the couple, and await autopsy findings to confirm who fired and in what order. If lab work supports the preliminary assessment, the case will be closed administratively as a murder-suicide following the medical examiner’s rulings. If new evidence emerges, investigators said they will adjust their findings and release an update. No public briefing time has been announced.
Neighbors gathered behind the tape as patrol cars lined the block. One resident said the couple generally kept to themselves and left for work early. Another described a quiet morning before sirens arrived. “We’re praying for the family,” a neighbor said, declining to give a name. Deputies escorted relatives away from the scene midmorning and placed stuffed animals in a patrol unit with the children while child advocates spoke with them.
As of Thursday afternoon, the constable’s office said the investigation was active and that the subdivision was open to residents. Officials said any further details, including the couple’s identities and autopsy results, would be released by county authorities in the coming days.
