Hudson Man Sentenced to 12 Years for Chilling Attack on Ex-Girlfriend Despite Protective Order

HUDSON, N.Y. — A local man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison following a brutal attack on his ex-girlfriend that occurred earlier this year. Orlando Williams, 55, was convicted of multiple charges, including attempted murder, after a violent incident that escalated to choking and an attempted stabbing in March 2024.

According to the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office, the incident began when Williams forcibly restrained the victim, covering her mouth and dragging her down the stairs of her residence. He then took her to a secluded wooded area, where he inflicted further harm, choking her and attempting to stab her with a knife. Law enforcement apprehended Williams the day after the attack in Greene County.

At the time of the assault, the victim had an active order of protection against Williams, reflecting a history of violence in their relationship. In a poignant letter read at the sentencing, the victim described the lasting trauma from the incident, stating that it has rendered her unable to feel secure even in her own home.

In addition to the attempted murder charge, Williams was found guilty of strangulation, unlawful imprisonment, criminal contempt, and possession of a weapon in a crime. All his sentences are set to run concurrently, reflecting the gravity of his actions.

As part of the court’s decision, the victim was also granted a 20-year order of protection, further emphasizing the need for her safety and peace of mind following the traumatic event. The decision aims to provide her with the necessary legal safeguard against any potential future threats from Williams.

This case highlights ongoing concerns around domestic violence and the importance of protective measures for victims. The sentencing serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of such violent behavior and the commitment of the legal system to holding offenders accountable.
