CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A mother in Charlotte is urging members of the community to come forward with information about the shooting death of her 17-year-old daughter, Amari Cooper, who was tragically killed at a Halloween party last year. The incident occurred in the early hours of November 1, 2025, at a residence on Old Plank Road in northwest Charlotte, marking a heartbreaking loss for family and friends.
Shante Robinson, Cooper’s mother, described her daughter as a devoted parent to her own young child and expressed the anguish of knowing that her daughter will no longer be present for significant milestones. “Amari cherished motherhood deeply. She took care of her daughter, bathing and feeding her, while also ensuring she was ready for daycare,” Robinson said. The loss is felt not only by her family but also by her classmates at West Charlotte High School, where she had aspirations of pursuing a career in ultrasound technology.
Police reported that gunfire erupted during the party attended by a crowd of teenagers, leaving many to flee the scene without providing details to law enforcement. “I felt entirely numb when I learned of her death,” Robinson recalled, describing the moment she arrived at the hospital. “It still feels unreal. Given the number of people present, it was shocking that only Amari was shot.”
Detectives have not disclosed the circumstances leading to the shooting, which has intensified the family’s grief and frustration. Detective Ashley Phillips from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Crime Stoppers has been actively engaging with the local community in an effort to gather leads on the case.
