Hatchet-Wielding Suspect Arrested After Series of Violent Assaults in Vista

VISTA, Calif. — A man has been arrested in connection with two violent incidents that unfolded in Vista, one of which involved a hatchet as a weapon, local authorities announced. The first incident occurred on Thursday evening on Watson Way, where a man suffered numerous cuts but opted against seeking medical assistance.

According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, deputies conducted a thorough search in the vicinity following the initial attack but were unable to locate a suspect. Hours later, they responded to another emergency call reporting a stabbing on Sycamore Avenue. In this incident, the victim sustained severe lacerations to his head, arms, and hands and required hospitalization due to the seriousness of his injuries. Thankfully, officials indicated that he is expected to survive.

During the course of the investigation, law enforcement officials recovered a hatchet that is believed to have been used during the later assault. This discovery played a critical role in leading deputies to the suspect, identified as 41-year-old Jesse Guzman. He was located on Shadowridge Drive and taken into custody without further incident.

Guzman now faces multiple charges, including attempted murder, mayhem, dissuading a witness, and assault with a deadly weapon. Authorities underscored the seriousness of these violent acts and are continuing to investigate the events leading up to the assaults.
