Fort Mill, North Carolina – A 28-year-old guest was arrested at Carowinds theme park after becoming violent over height restrictions for his son at the Woodstock Express roller coaster in Camp Snoopy. According to a report from the York County Sheriff’s Office, the guest, identified as Jalen Cohen, was upset when his son was initially allowed to ride the coaster but was later deemed too short upon reevaluation.
Cohen reportedly made threatening statements to park employees and demanded a refund after his son was not permitted to ride. The situation escalated when park supervisor Michael Parsons requested Cohen to leave the park, leading to an altercation with Detective David Beard. Cohen kicked the officer multiple times, causing damage to his watch and drawing blood during the encounter.
As a result of the incident, Cohen was charged with assault and battery in the third degree, resisting arrest, and malicious injury to personal property. He was later released on bond. The Woodstock Express ride at Carowinds requires a minimum height of 46” to ride alone or 40” to ride with an accompanying adult.
Height restrictions at theme parks have been a source of conflict in the past, with guests expressing frustration and anger when their children are unable to meet the requirements for certain rides. Despite being essential for safety reasons, these restrictions have led to unfortunate incidents like the one at Carowinds involving Cohen.
Carowinds has faced challenges in the past, including the temporary closure of the Fury 325 ride in June 2023 due to a steel support pillar crack. The park underwent repairs and reopened two months later in top condition. Incidents like these serve as reminders of the importance of following park rules and guidelines to ensure the safety of all guests.
Theme parks strive to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for visitors, but occasional confrontations like the one at Carowinds highlight the need for guests to abide by rules and regulations. Instances of aggression or violence over park rules can have serious consequences, as demonstrated in the case of Jalen Cohen at Carowinds. Guests are reminded to respect park policies and prioritize the well-being of themselves and others while enjoying the attractions.
