Gombe Police Crack Down on Violent Assault: 25 Suspects Arrested Following Attack on Divisional Officer

GOMBE, Nigeria — The Gombe State Police Command has confirmed the apprehension of 25 individuals suspected to be involved in an attack on the Divisional Police Officer of Kwadon Division, CSP Adamu Alhaji-Idi. The officer sustained serious injuries during the incident, which took place on May 20 while he was performing his official duties in Kwadon.

According to Police Public Relations Officer DSP Buhari Abdullahi, CSP Alhaji-Idi was brutally attacked by a group known locally as Kalare. Reports indicate that he suffered multiple injuries, including a significant wound to his forehead, necessitating immediate medical attention at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Gombe.

In a statement, Abdullahi condemned the violent act and reassured the public of the command’s commitment to holding those responsible accountable. “The Gombe State Police Command is dedicated to ensuring justice is served,” he stated, underlining the seriousness of the assault on law enforcement.

The brutality of the assault was reported to the command via a distress call received at approximately 9:00 a.m. from the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations. In response, a specialized team from Operation Hattara, led by CSP Ali Madaki, was dispatched to the scene to manage the situation and gather intelligence.

After executing a coordinated operation, the police successfully detained 25 residents of Kwadon town. They are currently in custody, undergoing a thorough investigation that will precede their arraignment in court.

In the wake of the attack, CP Bello Yahaya, accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner overseeing Operations, visited Kwadon. Their visit allowed them to assess the circumstances on the ground and express solidarity with the affected officers, reinforcing the command’s determination to combat crime in the area.

Abdullahi reiterated a firm stance against violence directed at police personnel. “We will not shy away from prosecuting anyone found guilty of compromising public safety or threatening the lives of our officers,” he asserted, emphasizing the command’s zero-tolerance policy.

Community cooperation is essential, and the police have encouraged Kwadon residents and those throughout Gombe State to remain compliant with the law as the investigation unfolds. Abdullahi remarked, “The age of impunity in attacking security forces is over. We are committed to restoring peace and ensuring that justice prevails.”
