One caller from the Clifton neighborhood described hearing a massive explosive sound followed by a blackout, with many in the community stepping out of their homes in alarm. The caller initially speculated about a possible transformer explosion due to the nature of the loud noise.
Further descriptions from the 911 calls illustrate the intensity of the explosion. Residents reported shaking houses and sudden power losses, underscoring the widespread impact of the blast. Another caller, who initially thought her home was being invaded, realized the seriousness of the situation when she was informed over the phone that a factory had exploded, leading to all the windows in her house shattering.
