Crescent Township, Pennsylvania – Peoples Gas is undertaking a significant infrastructure improvement project in Crescent Township, replacing aging gas lines near the site of a tragic home explosion that claimed two lives in March. The decision to replace the gas lines comes as part of a proactive effort by the company to enhance the safety and reliability of the system and has no connection to the previous explosion, according to Nick Paradise, Peoples Gas communications manager.
The targeted area for the replacement project spans Route 51 between Purdy Road and Spring Run Road, where the fatal explosion occurred. Paradise emphasized that the focus is on preemptively replacing outdated infrastructure to prevent potential issues in the future. This particular section was selected due to its aging infrastructure and is part of a broader plan to replace over 3,000 miles of pipeline in the region.
The work is scheduled to primarily take place during nighttime hours, between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., with the goal of completing the replacement by early June. Despite ongoing investigations into the cause of the home explosion, which involved a private gas well and propane tanks on the property, officials have yet to disclose an official determination.
Residents and community members in the vicinity have expressed support for the gas line replacement project, citing the importance of maintaining safety and preventing potential accidents. The company’s commitment to infrastructure improvements aims to enhance the overall quality and reliability of the gas system, reducing the risk of leaks or outages.
With construction crews actively working to replace the gas lines, commuters and residents in the impacted area can expect traffic disruptions, as certain sections of Route 51 will be reduced to one lane during the project. Despite the inconvenience, the proactive approach to infrastructure upgrades is seen as a positive step towards ensuring the community’s safety and well-being.
As Peoples Gas continues its efforts to modernize and strengthen the gas infrastructure in Crescent Township, the project serves as a reminder of the ongoing commitment to safety and reliability in the energy sector. The replacement of aging gas lines represents a crucial investment in the community’s future, prioritizing preventive measures to safeguard against potential hazards and ensure uninterrupted gas service for all residents.
