Garner Community Mourns as Driver Faces Judge After Fatal Crash That Claimed Local Family

GARNER, N.C. — A tragic accident that claimed the lives of a local family has led to serious charges against 25-year-old Jordan Porter, who is expected to face a judge on Monday. This court appearance follows his recent discharge from the hospital.

In early May, while reportedly driving to work impaired, Porter collided with the vehicle of the Campbell family on US Highway 70 near New Rand Road. The heartrending incident resulted in the deaths of Tyler and Susan Campbell, as well as their 8-year-old son, Miles.

Investigative reports indicate that prior to the accident, Porter had consumed several beers at a bowling alley in Clayton and had also used marijuana. Following the crash, Porter was hospitalized for his injuries which took nearly a month for recovery.

Garner Police have charged Porter with three counts of second-degree murder, highlighting the severe consequences of driving under the influence. Additional charges include felony death by vehicle, reckless driving, and other related traffic infractions such as speeding and running a red light.

Following his arrest in late June, the Garner Police Chief Lorie Smith issued a heartfelt statement expressing the department’s grief over the incident. Smith underscored the emotional toll such tragic events take on first responders and extended sympathies to everyone affected by the loss of the Campbell family.

Porter, who has a substantial history of traffic violations, including a prior guilty plea for consuming alcohol under 21 and failure to maintain lane control, as well as a speeding ticket received just a month prior to the crash, now faces serious legal repercussions.

The upcoming court appearance is set for 10 a.m., where Porter will be formally arraigned. This case has not only devastated the local community but also sparked broader conversations about road safety and the impact of impaired driving.

Neighboring residents and friends of the Campbell family have been profoundly affected, with many sharing cherished memories and speaking to the family’s positive impact on the community. The incident serves as a somber reminder of the preciousness of life and the responsibilities that come with road usage.
