HOUSTON — Friends and family gathered in grief and a mother pleaded for justice nearly two weeks after a heinous act of violence claimed the life of Julian Comeaux, a young Navy recruit. On February 16, following an outing with friends, Comeaux was fatally shot confronting an individual who reportedly burglarized a friend’s car on Hadley Street around 1 a.m.
According to accounts from those present, as the group approached the suspect to confront him about the break-in, the altercation escalated. Michael Fox, one of the friends, recounted the harrowing moments. “We tried to hold the burglar accountable, and suddenly, it just escalated into a physical scuffle, and then, tragically, gunshots rang out,” Fox said. During the chaos, another friend, Fitzroy Vanhorne, was struck by a bullet in the arm, expressing his shock and the adrenaline rush he felt in that perilous moment.
The distressing incident culminated in multiple shots being fired, with one bullet striking Comeaux in his arm and another fatally wounding him in the neck.
