Four Teens Arrested After Brutal Attack on Woman in Brandon Business District

Brandon, Manitoba — Four young individuals, three girls and one boy, were taken into custody in Brandon last weekend following a brutal assault that left a woman hospitalized with considerable injuries. This incident arose amidst growing concerns over youth violence in the community.

Local authorities reported that the altercation occurred at approximately 2:15 p.m. Sunday outside a business on the 800 block of Rosser Avenue. Police were summoned to the scene following reports of a disturbance. Upon arrival, they found a 30-year-old woman suffering from significant, though non-life-threatening, injuries. She was promptly transported to a local hospital for medical attention.

Investigative reports from the Brandon Police Service (BPS) indicate the violent encounter was captured on surveillance footage. The video revealed distressing scenes where the victim was encircled and assaulted by the trio of teenage girls. They reportedly punched and knocked her to the ground, then continued the attack with further punches and kicks.

Adding to the severity of the incident, a 15-year-old boy allegedly participated in the assault, reportedly kicking the victim while she lay helpless on the ground. During the onslaught, the victim’s cellphone was stolen, and the group of assailants fled the scene.

In a swift response, law enforcement officers embarked on a pursuit and successfully located and arrested the suspects within a few hours of the attack. The police apprehended two 14-year-old girls and a 17-year-old girl, all of whom were detained and remain in custody. The 15-year-old boy was arrested but subsequently released under an undertaking.

This episode sparks a larger conversation about juvenile delinquency and public safety. Community leaders and local authorities may need to evaluate strategies to curb such violent incidents and consider programs aimed at engaging youth in more constructive activities.

The Brandon Police Service is continuing their investigation into this matter. They have called upon any witnesses or individuals with further information to step forward. This assault not only highlights the immediate threat of physical violence but also the broader implications for community well-being and the urgent need for preventative measures against youth crime. As the inquiry proceeds, affected community members await clear actions that will address and hopefully diminish the risk of such occurrences repeating.
