COMSTOCK PARK, MI – Thomas Pinkerton, a former church leader in Comstock Park, Michigan, has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of child sexual abuse in Maryland. The arrest follows a detailed investigation into allegations dating back over a decade.
Pinkerton, who once played a prominent role at New Chapel Church, was apprehended in Georgia and extradited to face charges in Maryland. The accusations stem from his time as a youth leader, where he allegedly abused several minors between 2006 and 2010.
To Grunwell, a former church member, voiced her concerns about Pinkerton’s conduct, which were initially ignored by the church leadership. Her persistence eventually led to her exclusion from the church community, and she later faced legal consequences for threatening the church’s lead pastor in her quest for answers.
The church has since distanced itself from Pinkerton, expressing deep sorrow over the situation. They are actively cooperating with law enforcement to ensure justice for those affected.
Victims have described Pinkerton’s manipulative tactics, claiming he used his religious authority to exploit young boys. The church has removed his recorded messages from their website and cut all ties with him.
Detectives suspect there may be more victims and urge anyone with information to come forward. Pinkerton’s attorney asserts his innocence, confident that the legal process will clear his name.
While Pinkerton awaits trial in Maryland, the community grapples with the revelations, emphasizing the need for safeguarding vulnerable individuals within trusted institutions.
