Ahmedabad, Gujarat – Foreign students from Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka found themselves in a disturbing situation at Gujarat University when they were attacked during a late-night altercation at their hostel. The confrontation reportedly stemmed from tensions surrounding the students’ practice of offering namaz on campus, leading to a violent clash between the students and a group of individuals objecting to their religious practices.
The altercation took place at Block A of Gujarat University, where the foreign students reside. Additional Commissioner of Police Neerajkumar Badgujar confirmed that an FIR has been filed in connection with the incident, ensuring that the attackers will be swiftly apprehended. One of the injured students remains hospitalized, while the others have been discharged after receiving medical treatment.
Videos of the attack on the foreign students have spread widely on social media platforms, shedding light on the alarming incident. Additionally, reports indicate that several vehicles were damaged during the altercation, escalating the severity of the situation.
In response to the incident, Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi has called an emergency meeting with senior officials to address the matter promptly. However, Gujarat University Vice-Chancellor Neerja Gupta was unavailable for comment, and the Gujarat University police station PI SR Bava confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
The injured students have been transferred to SVP Hospital for further medical attention, as the community awaits further updates on their condition.
