METAIRIE, La. — A catastrophic explosion on Interstate 10 disrupted a peaceful Saturday in Metairie as a trailer loaded with motorcycles and nitrous oxide canisters ignited, causing significant damage to nearby homes and possibly affecting a passing vehicle. The incident, which unfolded just after noon near Transcontinental Drive, prompted an urgent response from local fire crews.
According to Jefferson Parish spokesperson Gretchen Hirt, firefighters arrived at the scene to find the trailer fully ablaze. The subsequent explosion resulted in property damage to two residences on Arlene Street, located just beyond the interstate’s sound barrier. The force of the blast was so powerful that it was reportedly felt by residents as far as Green Acres Road.
