Winchester, Ky. – Brian Epperson has been indicted on multiple charges related to drug distribution and resulting fatalities, following a lengthy investigation that connected him to two overdose deaths. In a press release issued on October 16, Winchester Police Chief Travis Thompson detailed the events leading up to the indictment. The investigation commenced on June 27, 2025, when officers responded to a welfare check at the Red Roof Inn on Interstate Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered a deceased woman in one of the hotel rooms, prompting an immediate investigation by the department’s Criminal Investigations Division.
Detective Sergeant Matthew Reed of the Winchester Police spearheaded the inquiry, collaborating with agencies including the Kentucky State Police, the Lexington DEA field office, and local coroner’s offices. Their joint efforts aimed to piece together Epperson’s involvement in multiple jurisdictions, ultimately uncovering a pattern linked to the fatal overdoses.
Epperson, 40, has been charged with two counts of distributing methamphetamine, a controlled substance classified under Schedule II. These serious charges fall under U.S. law, specifically 21 U.S.C. 841 (a)(1) and (b)(1)(C), stipulating severe penalties. Each count carries a minimum sentence of life imprisonment if he is convicted.
