Pitt Meadows, British Columbia — A family’s decision to leave Canada has escalated after a violent attack last month left them shaken and fearful for their safety. The incident, which took place on September 26, was captured on surveillance footage and involved a businessman being assaulted just outside his home.
The video shows John Ling, the owner of a local aviation college, struck by two masked men wielding baseball bats. Ling’s wife attempted to intervene, but the assault continued until the assailants fled the scene. Witnesses also observed Ling’s daughter and their dog running away in distress during the confrontation. “Mr. Ling was left there with his wife trying to care for him,” said his lawyer, Russell Robertson.
After the attack, Ling was transported to a hospital, where he was treated for serious but not life-threatening injuries. The family’s ordeal has left them feeling vulnerable, prompting them to seek refuge outside the country, according to Robertson. “Mr. Ling has left the country out of what appears to be quite a legitimate fear that the attackers are going to come and finish the job,” he stated.
Surveillance footage also indicated the possible presence of a third individual who appeared to place an object under the family’s vehicle, which Robertson described as a “tracking device.” Police have not confirmed this detail, but they continue to investigate the incident. “Officers are reviewing video footage and speaking with potential witnesses. While the inquiry is ongoing, early signs point to this being a targeted attack,” said an official from the Ridge Meadows RCMP.
Ling’s attorney conveyed that his client has suspicions regarding the motivation behind the assault and is anxious for answers. “He fears for his family’s safety and is determined that those who orchestrated this violent act will be held accountable,” Robertson said. The lack of identified suspects has deepened anxiety within the community, which has experienced its fair share of crime recently.
As the investigation unfolds, local authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. Ridge Meadows RCMP has encouraged residents to contact them at 604-463-6251 if they have details that could assist in solving this case.
The Ling family’s distress serves as a stark reminder of the unsettling reality some residents face, highlighting the need for community vigilance and support.
