Fayetteville, N.C. — A 21-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the death of an infant, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. The charges against Darrell Lamar Evans Jr. include first-degree murder and felony child abuse related to the case.
Authorities were dispatched to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center on May 8 after receiving a report about a baby who had sustained a traumatic brain injury. Tragically, the infant succumbed to the injuries the following day. An autopsy conducted by the North Carolina Chief Medical Examiner’s Office later determined that the death was classified as a homicide.
