Father of Adopted Daughter Charged with Capital Murder in Shocking Katy Double Homicide

Katy, Texas — A 42-year-old man has been arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a married couple earlier this month. Norman Lee Johnson, the biological father of the couple’s adopted daughter, faces serious allegations related to the deaths of 52-year-old Christopher Lopez and his wife, Trinette Lopez, also 52.

Authorities discovered the Lopez couple dead inside their home on Bent Springs Lane on January 12, 2026, after a call from one of their adult children reporting that their parents had been shot. Upon arrival, deputies found the couple in separate rooms; both were pronounced dead at the scene. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences later ruled their deaths homicides, attributing Christopher’s death to a gunshot wound to the face and identifying multiple injuries to Trinette, including wounds to her head and hand.

Investigators believe the motive for the killings is linked to ongoing disputes regarding child custody. Johnson had a previous encounter with law enforcement in October 2024, when he was charged with harassment for making threats against the Lopez couple. A family member alleged that Johnson had expressed intentions to harm Christopher and Trinette after being denied access to his daughter without going through child protective services.

The U.S. Marshals Lone Star Task Force apprehended Johnson in Round Rock, Texas, where he was subsequently booked into the Williamson County Jail. Plans are underway for his transfer back to Harris County as the investigation continues.

Local authorities confirmed that there were no signs of forced entry at the Lopez residence, and no weapons were found on the scene. At the time of the shooting, the couple’s two adult children and their 7-year-old daughter were sleeping upstairs and were unharmed by the incident.

While the investigation unfolds, more details about the couple and their family dynamics are expected to emerge. As community members grapple with the shocking nature of this crime, officials urge anyone with information relevant to the case to come forward.
