Sheriff’s officials said deputies previously handled a domestic disturbance and mental health-related case at the Stoneside Drive residence.
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Deputies had responded to a northwest Harris County home for a domestic disturbance and a mental health-related case more than a year before a man was fatally stabbed there Thursday, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
The prior history emerged as investigators identified 64-year-old Aubrey Sanders as the man killed at the home in the 16700 block of Stoneside Drive and charged his 30-year-old son, Liam Jacob Sanders, with murder. The sheriff’s office said the earlier calls occurred in May 2025.
Authorities said one of those previous responses involved a domestic disturbance. The other involved a mental health case in which the younger Sanders was taken for emergency detention. Officials have not said whether either earlier incident was directly connected to Thursday’s death, and investigators have not announced a motive.
Deputies returned to the home shortly after 11 a.m. Aug. 27 after a 911 call concerning the stabbing. Authorities said Liam Jacob Sanders told the dispatcher that he had stabbed his father. Deputies detained him after arriving at the residence.
Inside the home, deputies found Aubrey Sanders suffering from stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff’s office later identified both men and announced that the younger Sanders had been charged with murder and booked into the Harris County Jail.
The disclosure of the earlier calls provides additional history about law enforcement contact at the residence but does not establish why Thursday’s confrontation occurred. Officials have not publicly released evidence showing what happened immediately before the stabbing or what may have prompted it.
The sheriff’s office also said Aubrey Sanders’ 19-year-old daughter, who has special needs and lived with him, was away from the residence at the time. Authorities did not report injuries to anyone else at the home.
Initial reports described the response as a family disturbance, with one person dead and another detained. Additional information released later Thursday established the father-son relationship, identified both men and confirmed the murder charge against Liam Jacob Sanders.
The investigation remains active. Authorities have not announced a motive or said whether detectives expect additional charges, and the previously reported law enforcement contacts at the home remain part of the background to the case rather than a stated explanation for the killing.
