THANJAVUR, India – A 19-year-old girl from an intermediate caste was reportedly murdered by her father and relatives in Thanjavur district when they discovered she was in a relationship with a 19-year-old from the Adi Dravidar community. The victim’s father, Perumal, and his family members are accused of the crime and a case has been filed by the Vattathikottai police under Sections 302 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code.
The victim, Iswarya, and her boyfriend, B. Naveen, both worked at a textile unit in Tiruppur district and were in love. Naveen claimed they got married at a temple in Avarapalayam, despite the fact that he is underage, to prevent her father from separating them. After fleeing to Veerapandi, Iswarya was traced by police and handed over to her father. When Naveen returned home, he was informed that Iswarya had been murdered by her father and relatives. Perumal and some of his relatives are currently being sought by the police.
The case is suspected to be a caste killing due to the victim’s relationship with someone from a different community.
