FERGUSON, MO – A father in Ferguson is under scrutiny after allegedly provoking a fight involving his daughter and another child on a school bus. The incident has led to legal action and sparked conversations about parenting and conflict management.
Authorities claim 36-year-old Maurice Fox boarded a school bus with his 6-year-old daughter, encouraging her to attack a 7-year-old peer. The episode, captured on video, shows Fox reportedly directing his daughter to continue the assault until the other child was visibly upset.
Parenting expert Tricia Davis highlighted the need for adults to demonstrate constructive conflict resolution. “Children learn from what we do more than what we say,” Davis noted. “If we don’t show them how to handle disputes peacefully, they will replicate aggressive behavior.”
The Ferguson Florissant School District condemned the actions, emphasizing that school buses are considered part of the educational environment and that such behavior is unacceptable.
Police quickly intervened, stressing that retaliatory violence is not a suitable solution and can have harmful effects on children.
Fox is facing multiple misdemeanor charges, including trespassing and assault. His arrest could lead to a $100,000 bond. He has a criminal record with prior convictions for serious offenses.
The incident underscores the importance of parental responsibility in teaching children non-violent ways to resolve conflicts.
