Fatal Electric Scooter Crash Leaves One Dead in New Castle Intersection Incident

New Castle, Delaware – The Delaware State Police are currently conducting an investigation into a tragic incident that took place last night in New Castle, resulting in the death of a man following a collision involving an electric scooter.

According to authorities, the fatal crash occurred on May 26, 2024, around 8:46 p.m. at the intersection of New Castle Avenue and Memorial Drive. A 2015 Honda Accord traveling northbound attempted a left turn onto Memorial Drive, while simultaneously, a Tifgalop K-8 electric scooter was heading southbound on New Castle Avenue towards the intersection.

The collision took place in a dimly lit area, with the electric scooter lacking proper illumination. Despite efforts to avoid the impact, the Honda driver, a 50-year-old woman from Wilmington, was unable to see the approaching scooter, leading to a collision between the two vehicles.

Tragically, the rider of the electric scooter, who was not wearing a helmet or reflective clothing, sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. The individual’s identity has not been disclosed pending notification of their family. Following the incident, the driver of the Honda was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation.

In response to the collision, the authorities closed the roadway for approximately three hours to investigate the scene thoroughly and clear any obstructions. The investigation is ongoing as the Delaware State Police continue to gather more details surrounding the circumstances of the incident.
