Chrissiesmeer, South Africa — A local farm owner is receiving medical treatment after a violent assault early Friday morning left him with serious injuries. Authorities in Mpumalanga have arrested a 46-year-old man from Malawi, who now faces multiple charges including attempted murder and stock theft.
Provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Thulisile Magagula reported a swift response from law enforcement following notifications of the attack. When officers and emergency medical teams arrived at the scene, they found the victim with a stab wound to the neck while one assailant had suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh. Both individuals were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for urgent care.
Initial investigations indicate the farm owner was inspecting his property after discovering that the perimeter fence had been tampered with. During this inspection, he was confronted by two assailants, one of whom attacked him with a knife. In an act of self-defense, the victim was able to fire his weapon, striking one of the attackers. The other suspect managed to escape on foot.
The man who was captured is currently hospitalized under police supervision and will be brought before the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court once medically cleared. Authorities have confirmed that the fugitive suspect, who remains at large, is already out on bail for previous offenses in the surrounding areas of Carolina and Chrissiesmeer.
Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, acting provincial commissioner for Mpumalanga police, emphasized the dangers posed by repeat offenders, stating, “It’s evident this individual hasn’t changed his ways. He continues to engage in criminal activity while on bail, and we are committed to ensuring he faces the consequences.”
