AUSTIN, Texas – It has been nearly five years since Andre Davis, known as “Big Dre,” was shot and killed during a robbery in East Austin’s Givens Park. The case has gone cold, leaving his family and the community still seeking justice. Davis was playing dominos at the park when he was robbed and fatally shot, despite complying with the demands of the perpetrator. His sister, Arbor Davis, remembers him as a kind, loving person and pleads for information that could lead to the arrest of his killers.
The space where the tragic incident occurred now has a mural honoring Davis, and his sister reflects on the significance of the park, calling it one of his favorite places to be. She recalls her brother’s presence and the good times they shared in the park, but also expresses the pain of missing his smile, long talks, and laughter.
Although a man was arrested in connection with the case in May 2019, the charges were later dropped, leaving the family and the community without closure. Arbor Davis, while longing for justice, emphasizes that they are not seeking revenge, but rather understanding and closure so they can continue uplifting Dre’s name and keeping his memory alive.
The family released orange balloons for gun violence awareness last April, yearning for those with information about the incident to come forward. They urge anyone with information to contact the APD Cold Case Unit or submit a tip through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program, with a possible reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
As time continues to pass with no resolution in sight, the family remains hopeful that justice will eventually be served for Andre Davis. They continue to appeal to the public for any information that could help bring closure to this tragic case.
