HAZLEHURST, Mississippi – A family is taking legal action against a gas company in connection with a propane explosion in Copiah County that claimed the lives of three men. The family’s attorneys made the announcement during a press conference on Thursday, naming Herring Gas Company and two of its employees as defendants.
The explosion, which occurred at a home on Wilderness Road, resulted in the deaths of four people and injured two others, according to the attorneys. The victims included 18-year-old Houston “Bubba” Jordan, 14-year-old Toler Jordan, and 43-year-old Calvin Benjamin Jordan. The fourth victim has not been publicly named.
The attorneys are claiming that the propane tank was being filled the night before the explosion, potentially leading to overfilling or leakage. The cause of the explosion is under investigation by the local sheriff’s office with assistance from the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The family’s legal representatives emphasized the devastating impact the explosion had on the victims’ loved ones, particularly Calvin’s wife and daughter, who were present at the time and attempted to save their family members but sustained severe burns in the process.
The attorneys are seeking justice for the family and hoping to prevent similar accidents from happening to others in the future. They stressed the need to hold accountable those responsible for the tragedy and prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
Efforts to reach Herring Gas Company for comment were unsuccessful, and the attorneys are determined to bring justice to the family and ensure that no other family has to endure such a tragic loss.
