Family of Slain 13-Year-Old in Chesterfield County Pleads for Justice as Reward Offered for Tips

Chesterfield County, S.C. — The family of Jacob Duncan, a 13-year-old who tragically lost his life in a drive-by shooting more than a year ago, continues to seek justice as investigators have not yet identified a suspect in the case. To encourage community involvement, the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office has announced a $2,500 reward for information that leads to an arrest.

Jacob was shot at home when a stray bullet pierced the residence in January 2024. “A child should never lose their life to violence that was never meant for them,” said Sheriff Cambo Streater in a recent Facebook post. He emphasized the need for the community’s help in resolving this heartbreaking case. “We owe it to him, to his family, and to this community to find who did this and hold them accountable.”

Despite ongoing investigations, deputies are urging those who may have witnessed the incident or have any pertinent information to come forward. The sheriff’s office noted that it cannot achieve closure in the case without the public’s assistance.

The community has been shaken by the tragedy. Friends and family describe Jacob as a bright and promising child whose life was filled with laughter and potential. Local residents have expressed concern about gun violence in the area while rallying around Jacob’s family, offering support as they navigate their grief.

Authorities encourage anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office at 843-623-2101 or provide anonymous tips by calling or texting 843-287-0235. As the case remains unresolved, both the family and the community hope for answers that could lead to justice for Jacob.
