YEREVAN, Armenia – An explosion in Yerevan’s Erebuni district has resulted in two deaths and two injuries. The explosion, followed by a collapse, occurred on Monday morning at 34 Nor Aresh Street, leading to the deaths of a man and his wife. Rescuers were able to extract an 86-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man from the rubble and rushed them to a nearby hospital.
The police received a 911 call reporting the explosion at 11:36 in the morning. Search and rescue operations continued to recover the bodies of additional victims, including Gayane Yeghoyan and Hayk Soghomonyan. As a result of the explosion, several house structures have been damaged, and two houses at 34 Nor Aresh Street have collapsed completely.
The cause of the explosion is currently under investigation, and criminal proceedings have been instituted to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Additionally, two combat units are on duty at the scene, overseeing the aftermath of the explosion and aiding in the investigation.
