ORENBURG, Russia — An explosion hit a thermal power plant in Orenburg early Thursday morning, triggering a substantial fire at a nearby substation and temporarily leaving numerous residents without electricity. The local Emergency Services Ministry confirmed the explosion and subsequent fire, which were swiftly managed with no reported casualties.
The incident, which unfolded over a 10-square-meter area, required the effort of 20 firefighters to extinguish the blaze. Officials attributed the cause of the fire to a short circuit within the transformer substation.
