PEMBROKE, MA – A former Boston postal inspector is under scrutiny for allegedly siphoning more than $330,000 intended for victims of a telemarketing scam. Scott Kelly is accused of diverting these funds for personal luxuries, including home enhancements and extravagant outings.
According to prosecutors, Kelly used the embezzled money to revamp his Pembroke home, installing high-end features like granite countertops and upgrading his pool area. The funds were also reportedly spent on Caribbean cruises and hiring escorts.
Tasked with investigating fraud against seniors, Kelly allegedly manipulated the postal system to intercept packages containing cash. From 2019 to 2023, he is said to have sent misleading emails to coworkers, convincing them to hand over these flagged packages.
In a further breach of trust, Kelly allegedly used another employee’s access code to steal money from an evidence vault, attempting to place blame on a subordinate.
After his arrest, Kelly was released on a $25,000 unsecured bond and has pleaded not guilty. His attorney has refrained from commenting on the matter.
If convicted, Kelly could face a lengthy prison sentence, marking a dramatic turn for the former inspector.
The case underscores the importance of integrity within law enforcement, especially for those in positions of authority tasked with protecting vulnerable populations.
