Edmonton Homebuilder Shooting Tragedy Unfolds: Suspect and Builder Identified

Edmonton, Alberta – The tragic shooting incident at a south Edmonton construction site this week shocked the community, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. Sources have identified Nick Dhaliwal as the person responsible for the fatal shooting. Dhaliwal was found deceased at the scene, alongside the well-known Edmonton homebuilder, Buta Singh Gill.

Family members revealed that Dhaliwal had been struggling with depression and work-related stress, receiving treatment at a hospital before the tragic events unfolded. The shooting occurred on Monday near Cavanagh Boulevard Southwest and 30th Avenue Southwest, claiming the lives of both Dhaliwal and Gill.

Gill, who previously worked as a bus driver for the Edmonton Transit Service, transitioned into a successful career as a homebuilder. The 56-year-old’s cause of death was confirmed to be gunshot wounds, with authorities ruling it as a homicide. Meanwhile, a 49-year-old man was also found dead at the scene, having succumbed to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The incident also left a 51-year-old man with severe, life-threatening injuries. Authorities announced that no charges will be laid in relation to the homicide, as the suspect, Dhaliwal, is deceased. Homicide detectives have ruled out the involvement of any additional suspects in the case.

Furthermore, investigators are exploring potential connections between this crime and Project Gaslight, an extortion series targeting homebuilders from South Asian communities. The tragic losses of Gill and the unidentified 49-year-old man have left the community reeling, with friends and family coming together to mourn their passing and honor their legacies.

Despite the devastating impact of the incident, there is a glimmer of hope as the man who was seriously injured in the shooting shows signs of improvement. Although he remains unable to speak, he has been able to communicate through writing, providing some comfort to those around him during this difficult time.
