Colorado Springs, Colorado – Recent court records have shed light on the suspect involved in a tragic shooting at a Colorado university dormitory that resulted in the deaths of two individuals. The records reveal roommate disputes between one of the victims, University of Colorado at Colorado Springs senior Samuel Knopp, and the suspect, Nicholas Jordan, 25. Jordan, who was confirmed to be Knopp’s roommate by Colorado Springs Police Chief Adrian Vasquez, was arrested on two counts of first-degree murder following the incident.
Knopp, 24, and Celie Rain Montgomery, a 26-year-old woman unaffiliated with the university, were discovered deceased on February 16 at the university’s Crestone House residence. Investigators, after unsealing a police detective’s affidavit on February 23, learned that there had been previous complaints and issues between the roommates, with Knopp reported to have filed complaints with campus police and housing officials regarding Jordan’s behavior.
According to the affidavit, Jordan had threatened Knopp after an incident where Knopp placed a bag of garbage near Jordan’s door, escalating to a death threat. The affidavit also revealed complaints about Jordan’s cleanliness and alleged drug use within the living space. Following the shooting, Jordan was arrested and is currently being held on a $5 million bond. Authorities have issued an arrest warrant for Jordan hours after the tragedy occurred, with law enforcement noting that the victims likely knew the shooter.
The identities of the victims have been confirmed by the El Paso County coroner’s office, although the official cause and manner of death have yet to be determined. Knopp, known for his musical talents as a senior studying music at the university, has been remembered fondly by his peers and faculty. Montgomery, a health and wellness copywriter from Pueblo, Colorado, had briefly attended Pueblo Community College’s culinary arts program.
