Terre Haute, Indiana – A detached garage fire on the north side of Terre Haute left a vehicle and boat destroyed on Friday afternoon. The Otter Creek Fire Department was quickly summoned to the scene on N. James Street just before 2 p.m.
Otter Creek Fire Chief Bryan Mount reported that the garage, vehicle, and speed boat were all completely lost in the blaze. Fortunately, a resident who had been sleeping in the vicinity woke up to the sound of an explosion and was able to escape unharmed, with no injuries reported.
Fire departments from Lyford, Terre Haute, Seelyville, and Lost Creek also responded to the scene, working diligently to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, with authorities looking into potential factors that may have contributed to the ignition.
