Tongaat, South Africa — A woman suffered severe injuries in a knife attack Saturday night, prompting her boyfriend to rush her to a local clinic in a shopping trolley. Authorities say she was assaulted in the Tongaat Central Business District, leading to a frantic situation reported just before 8:30 p.m.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa, the man, visibly distressed, sought help from officers patrolling Gopalall Hurbans Road. He explained that an assailant had disemboweled his girlfriend, leaving her in critical condition. Rusa spokesperson Prem Balram noted the woman’s alarming state; she feared for her life due to the extensive wounds inflicted during the encounter.
As responding officer Jordon Tarr accompanied the boyfriend back to the scene, they spotted the alleged attacker nearby. Reports indicate that the suspect attempted to brandish a knife but was subdued and arrested by the officer.
Investigations revealed that the suspect was previously incarcerated for murder and was on parole at the time of the attack. Balram reported that the assailant approached the woman with a proposition for sex, and upon her refusal, he violently assaulted her.
Once the suspect was taken into custody by local police, Officer Tarr turned his attention back to the victim, who had already been transported to the clinic. She was located receiving emergency care at the facility, a struggle for her survival evident as her condition remained critical.
